This Study:

When we talk about praying, a lot of us think of sitting in church – heads bowed, hands folded, eyes closed, trying to pay attention and not fall asleep. But prayer is not a posture – it’s a action, a discipline, a lifestyle. Talking to God should be as natural as breathing and as much a part of life as laughter, tears, and love. In “The Life of Prayer,” youth with have the opportunity to learn about and practice many forms of prayer. Creative or active, meditative or vocal, “The Life of Prayer” encourages youth to connect to God and discover prayer habits that fit their unique gifts and personalities.

The purpose of this series is to teach youth that prayer can take many forms, and to help them find their own unique way of talking to God. Prayer is meant to express each person’s thoughts, feelings, and conversations with God – no one else’s. So there’s no right or wrong way to pray, just different styles and methods. While everyone may not enjoy every method, the experience is part of learning what “clicks” with each student and what doesn’t, and thereby help them develop a prayer life that is meaningful to them. These lessons may not look like others you have done before, as much of the time will be dedicated to prayer time rather than an in-depth discussion of the Scripture passages. The intention is to give youth time to experience different prayer methods, and then consider whether or not they might make it a part of their own prayer lives.
